Super Junior‘s Eunhyuk recently found himself in a hilarious predicament after winning his first-ever solo award on Music Bank. The win was sweet, but it also brought back memories of a playful promise he made earlier: to retire if he took home the top prize.

A Surprising Victory

Eunhyuk made his solo debut in January with the album “EXPLORER” and the title track “UP N DOWN.” While promoting his solo work, he jokingly told Music Bank hosts Minju and Moon Sang Min that a win would mean his retirement from the industry. Little did he know, he’d soon be eating his words.

On February 7th, Eunhyuk’s name was called as the Music Bank winner, much to his surprise. The idol’s shocked reaction was caught on camera, adding to the amusement of fans. Adding to the playful chaos, fellow Super Junior member Donghae stood beside him, holding a sign that simply read, “Retire.”

From Shock to Gratitude (and a Plea!)

Eunhyuk took to Instagram to express his gratitude to fans for their tireless support.

“This award was really earned by all of you… People might think, ‘how did this song get first place when it didn’t show up much on the charts?’ It’s because you all voted like crazy, streamed, and gave it all your effort in order to make this song number one!” he wrote.

He acknowledged his own hard work on the album, but emphasized the significance of the award due to the overwhelming love from his fans.

The post continued with thanks to his staff, SM Entertainment, and expressions of hope for a Super Junior reunion for their 20th anniversary. But it was his closing statement that truly grabbed attention:

“And my retirement… can I cancel it?”

The “When” Clause

Eunhyuk later clarified his playful retirement promise, cleverly pointing out that while he did say he’d retire, he never specified when that retirement would take place. This witty loophole has further entertained fans, who are thrilled to see Eunhyuk’s solo success and his continued engagement in the industry. It seems Eunhyuk’s retirement plans are on hold, at least for now!
