BingBang’s T.O.P Cringes at His Own “Thanos”
T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun) of BIGBANG fame has opened up about his experience playing the eccentric rapper “Thanos” in Netflix’s hit series ‘Squid Game 2‘, and it seems even he couldn’t help but cringe at some of his scenes.
“I wanted to design and create a never-before-seen character,” he explained. “I used gestures that were outdated and exaggerated to make viewers feel uncomfortable and unsure about whether they find him annoying or cringey.”
T.O.P delved into the backstory of Thanos, explaining that the character is a washed-up rapper from the 2000s, clinging to past glory. This explains his outdated language and desperate attempts to impress, particularly his cringeworthy rap performance aimed at Kang Mi Na (played by Song Ji Woo).
“I’ve rapped for more than 20 years of my life, but I’ve never rapped for a woman to get her attention,” T.O.P confessed, laughing. “So, I was nearly losing my mind while filming this scene.”
The rapper-turned-actor also revealed that he was heavily involved in shaping Thanos’ rap, shortening the original script and incorporating over-the-top gestures to amplify the awkwardness. His efforts certainly paid off, as Thanos has become one of the most talked-about characters in ‘Squid Game 2’, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
With ‘Squid Game 2‘ now streaming on Netflix, fans are eagerly anticipating the series finale in Season 3, expected to be released in 2025. Will Thanos make a reappearance? Only time will tell.
