NewJeans, TXT, LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT are some of the K-pop acts that won big at the Japan Record Awards in Nov. 21.

NewJeans Wins Award With Japanese Debut Single ‘Supernatural’

K-pop group NewJeans emerged as one of the night’s biggest winners, as they snagged the Excellent Work Award for the second time in a row. They won in the category for the first time last year with their work ‘Ditto,’ and this year, they took home the coveted title with their Japanese debut single, ‘Supernatural.’

The Excellent Work Award celebrates a total of ten songs each year which stand out for their originality, popularity, and meticulous planning and execution.
The chosen ten songs also get the chance to compete for the coveted Grand Prize, which will be announced on December 30 at this year’s live ceremony.

NewJeans took this year by storm by releasing catchy songs, big shiny music videos and for making their first big splash in the fashion world when they signed a deal with Calvin Klein to be the faces of the brand’s fall campaign.

ILLIT Makes History By Taking Home the New Artist Award

However, all eyes seemed to be on ILLIT, the rising girl group that surprised everyone by taking home the prestigious New Artist Award for their hit single, ‘Magnetic.’

It was a history-making win too, as they became the first K-pop girls to win in that category since 2NE1 took home the award in 2011. Since making a splash with their debut mini-album SUPER REAL ME, they’ve proven that they’ve got what it takes to go the distance and compete with global female acts such as BLACKPINK, aespa, NewJeans and FIFTY-FIFTY.

The 5-member group was assembled through the competition R U Next?, with Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha emerging as the winners to form the band.

Other K-pop acts to receive special awards and recognition include TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), who were recognized for their enormous impact on the music industry over the past year.

For all their hard work, LE SSERAFIM were awarded the Special International Music Award, a category that highlights artists who have achieved exceptional global success.
