BTS Jin, in a collaboration with Baek Jong Won, launched a liquor venture named IGIN. They are currently accused of violating labeling laws, but they recently denied it. Read on to find out more about the update.

Jin’s First Business Gets Slammed

BTS fans heard that K-pop star Jin’s first independent business ran into controversy. The collaborative company, named Jini’s Lamp, produces the brand, which includes a premium distilled spirit and ready-to-drink tonics.

In marketing the brand, it was touted as being made from ingredients from Baek’s hometown, Yesan. But unfortunately, they face some sticky legal issues. Recently, they were accused of violating South Korea’s Origin Labeling Act.

Allegedly, the “IGIN Highball Tonic” series was misleadingly labeled as domestic. However, some ingredients reportedly included imported fruit concentrates. Furthermore, they allegedly used an incorrect product image on the brand’s website.

The Denial Of  Law-Breaking

It’s important for BTS Jin to keep his nose clean, so to speak, especially with his first efforts at an independent business. So, it didn’t take long for a denial to emerge. AllKpop.com reported that they believe it’s a storm in a teacup over a brief input error. The outlet cited a representative who addressed the issue:

All our products are legally compliant and properly labeled with accurate origin information. However, during the product listing process on online marketplaces, there was a temporary mistake where the detailed information from a different product was inadvertently displayed. Once we became aware, we immediately corrected it.

Dissing The Other Claims

As for accusations of other labeling errors, that was also denied. The outlet noted, “The company further stressed that the product labels themselves contained no errors, and they are fully prepared to cooperate with any official investigation or inquiry.”

How the Labeling Issues Were Reported

Wondering if someone has a knife out against BTS Jin? It wasn’t a single person. Apparently, the K-Pop star and Baek Jong Won were reported by a civic group. Their objections came because the group believes there is something off about the plum and watermelon flavors in the ‘IGIN Highball Tonic.’

Allegedly, the complaint stated that the flavors come from Chile and the USA. Reportedly, Jini’s Lamp labels now say “see detailed description” instead of “domestic” ingredients.

Hopefully, this will now be the end of the controversy for Jin’s sake. While it has been a turbulent time for the popular k-pop star, at least it has also been a big learning curve. Future products might go the extra length to comply with Korea’s agricultural packaging laws.
