Golden by Huntrx from K-Pop: Demon Hunters didn’t win the Song of the Summer award at the VMAs, but it certainly inspired Whitney Leavitt during the premiere night of Dancing with the Stars, Season 34. She and pro-dancer Mark Ballas topped the evening’s scores amid a scoring error.

What Dance Did Whitney Do?

Whitney and Mark performed a tango to Golden, and it seemed like a great choice. After all, the song from the Netflix animation made history on Billboard as the first fictional K-Pop act to top the charts. So, the duo chose wisely, as millions of fans across the world fell in love with the Korean song blended with modern K-Pop.

The inspirational song from K-Pop: Demon Hunters immediately engaged fans who viewed the Dancing with the Stars premiere. If you don’t know, the song and the k-drama animation make a lot of waves right now, apart from DWTS

In fact, gaming developers already rush to climb in on the success of the movie. And, you can bet your last dollar that Golden will feature as a backing track. Well, it certainly helped to spark a lot of interest with DWTS fans as Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas managed to score high, rivaling Robert Irwin and Witney Carson. They performed a Jive to Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf.

Bruno Mixed Up The Scores

There was some confusion, but it wasn’t the fault of the musical charm from K-Pop: Demon Hunters. That arrived when judge Bruno Tonioli decided Whitney Leavitt’s performance was good enough to score a 7. However, he incorrectly entered it as an 8 in the electronic results.

Well, once it’s in the system, it’s in the system. So, Julianne Hough had to grant the duo a 15 instead of a 14. Still, the dance impressed everyone, and there’s not a lot of muttering about it yet. And that could affect overall voting once it starts.

Fans React

When the scoring error arrived, most folks took it well. One of them wrote in the YouTube comments, “So lol Bruno totally meant to put in an 7.”

Here are a few more reactions that proved fans thought the performance was good enough for an eight anyway:

  • Has mark ever had a bad partner and I thought he retired wouldn’t be surprised if they give it to him again.
  • DWTS are getting onto the K Pop Demon Hunters bandwagon!
  • omg shes so good.
  • well done whitney and you look beautiful! i love the hair color.
  • mark strikes again and [Whitney] was awesome . cant wait to see what she got next.
