HYBE and LE SSERAFIM 'BOOMPALA AI Criticism - Via K-Pop Spy - YouTube

K-pop fans hit breaking point with corporate manipulation, and a YouTube commentator just blew her stack about it in a scathing new vlog. In it, they took aim at HYBE and LE SSERAFIM. Read on to find out why.

‘BOOMPALA’ Criticism

Their new title track, BOOMPALA takes a lot of heat. If you don’t know, it’s the title track for their second studio album, PUREFLOW pt.1, per Korea Times.

Why the irritation factor? Well, per K-Pop Spy, folks expected LE SSERAFIM to deliver, as teased, a dark, expensive club anthem.

However, it seems they delivered something very different. So naturally, fans might feel a bit “catfished.”

The Macarena Reunion

The main issue with BOOMPALA seems to be a reliance on obvious “Macarena.” The vlog host pointed out that the track clings to this interpolation like “a terrified toddler,” running back to the nostalgic beat every five seconds.

It sounds amusing in the description which slammed it as coming over like sheer panic that audiences might stop streaming. But it’s not funny really. Not to die-hard K-Pop enthusiasts.

Not Explosive At All

In the opinion of the vlogger, instead of delivering explosive, campy fun that K-pop was built on, the song feels a bit like corporate “randomness” at its worst.

In their words, HYBE seem out of touch with the real culture of youth today.

Accused Of Content Farming

The vlog revealed cynicism about the trends in modern K-pop production. It seems as if artistic expression and progression went down the drain with the bathwater.

Instead of something deeply inspiring, they become more like engagement-optimized blocks designed to be played on a loop for short-form video algorithms. Ouch! But actually not far from the truth.

Sabotaging The group?

The critique didn’t stop at the production level. In fact, Spy also explored how HYBE’s current production style actively sabotages the members of LE SSERAFIM.

Given a lot of public scrutiny the group faced over their live vocals, choosing a title track completely “allergic to melody” feels counterproductive.

Instead of highlighting actual singing, the new single just delivers a bunch of singers with awkward talk-singing delivery that exposes every minor pronunciation slip.

Good production, Spy argued, should actually make the songs more around the artistic ability of the performers. So, the failure to engage came because BOOMPALA seems more like a soundtrack than talent.

AI Dystopia & the Gemini Ad

Perhaps the most frustrating part of the entire rollout is the blatant integration of tech adverts in the creative work. Actually, that’s becoming increasingly common these days. Recently, KATSEYE and ‘Pinky Up’ faced the same criticism from netizens.

Really, how much fun is a video that opens with a partnership promoting Google Gemini AI? Hmmm. That smacks of not protecting the artist and hoping for success.

Actually it’s a bit like Shutterstock now, that likes to content farm good photos to big tech at the expense of non-bland photos in the marketplace.

Natural Aversion To Synthetics

Nobody really wants synthetic textures and warped text that scream “computer-generated soup.” And for K-Pop fans, that’s a big problem.

Actually the whole thing comes across as mediocre. Notably, the lasting impression seemd more as if the project’s only there to protect the tech that in the end, takes careers away from the atists.

In the comments section, fans agreed with the crticisim. One of them wrote, “My mood was ruined immediately after seeing the google ai ad at the start.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • At this point am convinced hybe is ragebaiting us.
  • Can they go back to cat walking and singing about being fearless again???
  • Lesserafim’s comeback…is a literal atrocity. I mean damn. Boompala has to be a social experiment.
  • I’m tired of these labels forcing these groups to basically make background music for commercials and ads. It’s not even regular songs or music anymore…ATP kpop labels and producers don’t care to prioritize actually good music anymore, that’s why everything sounds like over glorified ringtones now.
