Ongoing Legal Dispute With ADOR/HYBE

However, this rebranding comes amidst a heated legal dispute between the group and their agency, ADOR, under HYBE. The move is seen as a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, with ADOR claiming the members have violated their exclusive contract.

The legal battle intensifies with two upcoming court dates. A hearing regarding ADOR‘s provisional injunction against the NewJeans members is scheduled for March 7th at the Seoul Central District Court. ADOR’s injunction seeks to compel the group to return to their duties under the label and prevent them from engaging in independent activities, including independent advertisement contracts. ADOR previously cited the members’ attempts to hold a contest for a temporary group name as a “severe breach of contract.

Furthermore, a lawsuit filed by ADOR in December to verify the validity of the exclusive contracts with NewJeans will have its first hearing on April 3rd at the same court. This legal action follows a press conference held by the members on November 28th, where they announced the termination of their contracts, alleging ADOR had failed to fulfill its obligations to protect its artists.

Will NJZ Even Be Allowed to Perform?

The timing of the rebranding and ComplexCon performance is particularly significant given the ongoing legal proceedings. The March 7th injunction hearing precedes the festival, raising questions about the group’s ability to perform. A court ruling against the members could potentially prevent them from appearing at ComplexCon and expose them to serious legal ramifications. The situation remains highly volatile, with the future of NJZ and the resolution of the legal dispute hanging in the balance.
