K-Pop fans are shocked and in disbelief because Golden by Huntr/x didn’t win the title for “Song of the Summer” during the VMA Awards this year. Their reactions arrived on social media after Audrey Nuna paid tribute to Mira on the red carpet.
The Song Had A Short Voting Time
Just 24 hours was allocated to voters to send Golden to the win. The news about voting arrived via @sonyanimation and @kpopdemonhuntersnetflix on Instagram. Unfortunately, many fans missed the news and didn’t vote.

However, they were later able to vent about it when another post arrived that showed Audrey Nuna.

The post revealed that Audrey wore a strange-looking outfit, and someone claimed that she looked like she wore a “sleeping bag.” Still, K-pop fans were more concerned about the loss to Tate McRae’s Just Keep Watching. Hardly anyone could believe that Golden, by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, didn’t make the coveted award.
Reactions In The Comments
Fans of K-Pop Demon Hunters expressed their irritation about the voting period. Plus, they felt devastated that Golden didn’t win. However, some of them remain optimistic, noting that the Oscars might come with a better result. One fan wrote, “Y’all it’s ok we still have the Oscar’s hopefully 🤞 that’s way bigger than the VMA’s.”
Talking about the loss, adding a long string of crying emojis, a less optimistic fan wrote, “They didn’t win song of the summer.”
Here are a few other reactions from the discussion area:
- They were definitely robbed!!! I know Tate is popular, there’s no way it won over Golden!??
- I’m so devastated there’s NO WAY THEY DIDNT.
- Now I remember why I stopped watching the VMAS over 10 years ago.
- this one was the only one I ever looked forward to and they ruined it.
- The fact they lost to a song I’ve NEVER even heard of is a complete joke.
While many similar comments followed, they were not really a diss to Just Keep Watching. Instead, it just seemed a massive shock because Golden by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami literally screeched up the rankings after its release.
At the same time, in saying that, the K-Pop Demon Hunters: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album, which had the song on it, did well and debuted on Billboard at number 1 in July. Nonetheless, Golden managed to top the Spotify charts. So, folks assumed it would take the “Song of the Summer” title.
