The wait for “Signal 2” has been a marathon, not a sprint, but finally, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Writer Kim Eun-hee, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed drama, recently appeared on MBC‘s “Questions” and offered an update that has fans buzzing with excitement.

“It took nine years from ‘Signal’ to Season 2,” Kim Eun-hee revealed, acknowledging the lengthy production process.

“Just because I write the script doesn’t mean it will happen. There are the actors’ schedules and various complicated processes. We are currently preparing for ‘The Second Signal.'”

This confirmation, though cautious, is a significant step forward. Kim Eun-hee explained the meticulous nature of her writing process, stating,

“Originally, the goal was to finish the script and appear on ‘Questions.’ I tend to fix the front while writing the back of the script. I’m currently writing episodes 7 and 8.”

Fans will be relieved to know that the core trio – Lee Je-hoon, Kim Hye-soo, and Cho Jin-woong – will reprise their roles, ensuring the continuation of the gripping narrative. And, of course, the iconic walkie-talkie, the bridge between past and present, will remain a pivotal element.

Adding a heartwarming layer to the announcement was the revelation of Kim Eun-hee’s close friendship with fellow screenwriter Kim Eun-sook. The “Descendants of the Sun” writer has been a staunch supporter of “Signal 2,” even playfully offering to assist Kim Eun-hee.

“If you ended ‘Signal’ like that, shouldn’t you write the next one?” Kim Eun-sook humorously chided, before adding, “If you can’t write melodrama, I can be your assistant writer, so you must write Season 2.”

Kim Eun-sook also expressed her admiration for Kim Eun-hee’s talent, particularly praising the impactful plastic bag scene from “Signal,” calling her a “genius.”

Lee Je-hoon, who delivered a powerful performance in the original series, shared his thoughts on Kim Eun-hee’s writing.

“It showed a side of humanity that wants to crumble and give up, overcoming it and demonstrating the power to catch the culprit. It was moving every time. I wondered what the power to write such stories is. The writer has a lot of interest in people. The thoughts on how to empathize with the hearts of those in pain and how to turn that heart into hope are conveyed in the writing. As an actor, the desire to act better also ignited,” he smiled.

The anticipation for “Signal 2” unmistakable! Fans have been patiently waiting a LONG Time and it seems that the sequel will not only meet but exceed expectations.
