EJAE Accepts the Golden K-Pop Demon Hunters Oscars Award - ABC Live - YouTube

It seems there’s no stopping the popularity of “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters. In fact, it just seems to keep on getting better and better. This week, the song made history at the 98th Academy Awards, and notably, the they did really well. However, while the win is great news, fans feel irritated.

A Historic Win

Firstly, “Golden” officially became the first K-pop song ever to win the Oscar for Best Original Song. Let’s be honest, that’s a major win for K-pop and for the industry, especially for EJAE, who took to the stage to accept the award.

Naturally, she spoke about how surreal it all feels. For the group, it’s more than just an award. And in fact, apart from success, it seems very much about “resilience.” Additionally, the win validates Korean lyrics and the culture that fans adore.

The Acceptance Speech

ABC News on YouTube covered the special moment for the “Golden” song from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Well, you might think that’s wonderful. So, why are fans complaining? In fact, during the speech, EJAE was visibly emotional.

She thanked the Academy, the rest of the team, and her family. Plus, she remembered to send her appreciation to the directors, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Naturally, shoutouts went to everyone involved in helping the film become a global phenomenon.

The Cut

When the outlet captured the moment the track scored the win, celebrations started online. But then came idappintment. Look, until then, the moment was awesome. After all, the film and “Golden” were huge successes. But even though the animated blockbuster gave Netflix its “first No. 1 box-office title,” the live broadcast gave the winner very little time to talk.

As EJAE was mid-sentence asking, “Is there anyone else I’d like to thank?” the segment was abruptly cut off.

Fans are simply very unimpressed after the cutting off of EJAE. While the news outlet possibly tried to keep the airing to a tight schedule, fans hated it. Notably, it became a big topic in the comments section.

Reactions From Fans

In the comments section on YouTube, one fan wrote, “They finally win and you cut them off?! Let them speak!”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion that followed.

  • So proud of EJAE and the team for making history, but the Academy really ruined the moment by rushing them off the stage like that.
  • First K-pop song to ever win and they don’t even get to finish their thank yous? Typical.
The disrespect is real. She was literally in the middle of a sentence. Give them their flowers properly!
  • I’ve been waiting all night for this win just to see them get cut off by the orchestra. Disappointing.

What are your thoughts? Was the cutoff just part of the show, or did the K-Pop Demon Hunters team deserve more time? Shout out in the comments below, and remember to come back here often for all your K-pop news and updates.
