The year is almost over and Stray Kids has decided to bless their fans one more time with brand new music. The 12-track project titled ‘HOP’ contains songs that explore the band’s persistence to remain on top despite the competitive nature of K-pop.

The standout track ‘Walkin On Water’ sees the boys sing about enduring challenges on their path to success, and comparing it to “Walkin on water.”

Stray Kids Sing of Being ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Nemo’ In Latest Single

The braggadocios new single, ‘Walkin On Water,’ further sees the boys compare their resilence as a group to pop culture elements like ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Nemo.’ The track contains samples from boom clap, a sub-genre of hip-hop popularized in the 1980s and 90s, along with incorporating a rock guitar sound into the mix.

“On the waves, we just play / We’re up here, no hurdles in our way / So stay, join the game / We ain’t gonna fall down deep into the water,” members I.N and Seungmin sing in the pre-chorus, before leading off to the chorus where I.N confidently sings, “I’ma flow on the water.”

Fans were especially impressed with the way the song sounds like it’s a bunch of different parts that’s neatly brought together to make a whole. The boys’ vocals also thrilled throughout the song, with Seungmin’s refrain, “Crashing waves, but I’ll never fall / Everyday, supernatural / Thrashing rain, I’ma bring the storm / This my stage, walkin’ on water,” happily living rent-free in the minds of many.

Fans praised the rap style and various aspects of the song, especially the intro – which, whether you vibed to the rest of the song or not, is really very hard for anyone to miss.

The visuals was another thrilling aspect of the song, as the boys get to show off their tough side on motorbikes and cool guy clothes. Their flawless choreography was mostly performed in front of traditional Korean buildings, as they sing of going “supernatural” and rising above the “chitter-chatter” of haters. I know they didn’t make mention of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ but something about the song and its accompanying music video just keeps reminding me of the iconic Disney movie.
