Police received a report around 5 PM on February 16th regarding Kim Sae Ron’s death. The individual who discovered her body is reported to be a friend. Preliminary investigations have found no signs of foul play, such as forced entry, but authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances and cause of death.

A Career Marked by Highs and Lows

Kim Sae Ron debuted in the 2009 film “A Brand New Life” and rose to prominence with her roles in films like “The Man from Nowhere” and “The Neighbor. Her career, however, was punctuated by a significant setback in May 2022. Following a car accident where she drove under the influence and fled the scene after hitting an electric transformer, causing a power outage, Kim Sae Ron took a hiatus from her activities to reflect. She was subsequently fined 20 million won for the incident.

Recent Projects and Future Plans

Despite the controversy, Kim Sae Ron’s talent remained undeniable. Her most recent work was the 2023 Netflix original series “Bloodhounds,” which was filmed prior to her DUI incident. She had initially planned a return to the stage with the play “Dongchimi” in May 2024, but ultimately withdrew due to health concerns.

A source close to the actress revealed that she had recently completed filming for a music film titled “Guitar Man” in November 2024 and was actively discussing future projects.

“I met Kim Sae Ron at the end of last year,” the acquaintance shared. “She changed her name to Kim Ah Im and was preparing for a new start. She had already finished filming the movie ‘Guitar Man’ in early November last year and had been kept discussing how to continue her activities afterward. Since she was making her return through a movie, we had talked about ‘giving it our all from now on,’ so hearing this news is truly heartbreaking.”

The source further revealed that Kim Sae Ron had plans to open a café with close friends and was eager to return to the entertainment industry, making her sudden passing even more devastating. Regarding the name change, the source clarified that it was not a recent decision, but rather a long-standing change that was already reflected on her official resident registration.

Our deepest condolences go out to her family.
