A K-Pop themed birthday party went badly for a dad who tried his best to make his daughter’s day special. It’s the kind of news that floats into social media feeds that breaks the monotony of bad or fake news these days. So, let’s take a look at the lighthearted responses from the genre’s fans.

The Fail Files

Probably, well-meaning dads across the world get things wrong for their kids. But for K-Pop fans, it’s not commonly known that things can be so badly misinterpreted. In a viral post shared on Instagram by @charlietop10s ahead of the weekend, some photos arrived that showed a young girl looking a bit shocked.

The reason being, that her dad knew K-Pop was about Korea. However, he didn’t know which Korea. So, paying attention in school is useful. Instead of BTS or some other group, he made it all about North Korea and Kim Jong Un. Really, the two don’t mix in reality, and in terms of culture.

In the caption, the admin explained:

A little girl told her dad she wanted a K-pop themed birthday party because she loves Korean music and idols. Her dad, trying his best, said “Got it! Korean theme, no problem.” The day of the party comes… and the decorations are all red flags, military marches playing in the background, and a cardboard cutout of Kim Jong Un at the cake table. Turns out… he picked the wrong Korea. The girl wanted BTS, but got DMZ instead.

Fans React To Situation

In the comments section, lots of memes popped up, which showed either amusement or embarrassment. Fans of the genre quipped and joked about it. Lots of them thought it was impossible for any dad to be so ignorant about K-drama and music. So, they thought he pranked his daughter.

One of them opined, “Her dad knows it there is no way he didn’t know it .”

Meanwhile, another fan, seeing the daughter’s disappointed face, commented, “I hope there were real…decorations after this prank.”

Here are a few more reactions to the blunder:

  • K-Pop means Kim Pop.
  • Yo! At least he tried and give his heart into it. so I give him that.
  • He knew exactly what he was doing.
  • Well if people mistake Australia for Austria all the time I don’t see why people can’t do the same with the north and South Korea.
  • I heard he did fix it though.

Was It A Prank?

While many people thought that he knew about the difference between North and South Korean culture, maybe he really made a mistake and it wasn’t a prank. If you look at the way he’s dressed, he seems to dress more like a person who lives in a rural area. Potentially, he never really listened to genre. But then, it begs the question: Why would he think his daughter was a fan of the North?
