A recent Hong Kong fire tragedy caused the cancellation of a MAMA Awards 2025 performance. The awards show itself continued, but the planned “Saja Boy” number was cut. Well, a respected vlogger had something to say about the reactions to the courtesy. Read on for more.
The Show Went On
At one stage, K-Pop fans feared the Hong Kong fire might delay or stop the awards indefinitely. However, it was just too big to cancel. So, most of it went ahead. However, several boy groups, including BOYNEXTDOOR, RIIZE, TWS, and ZEROBASEONE were cut from one single performance.

Vlogger slams unsympathetic fans after Hong Kong Fire – K-Pop Spy – YouTube
Popular vlogger K-Pop Spy strongly defended that decision on her YouTube channel Saturday night. Notably, she used the decision to highlight a larger problem within the K-pop community.
The vlogger explained that the canceled stage featured a “dark demon hunter theme“ filled with “flames, death, demons, [and] edgy visuals.” Unsurprisingly, she felt that the concept was inappropriate after the real-life disaster.
Actually, she argued the performance was “cooked from the beginning…[and] reality caught up.” Meanwhile, another performance connected to the demon-themed Netflix series, featuring BABYMONSTER, did proceed.
Slamming Complaints
Next, the vlogger criticized fans who complained online about the Saja Boys cancellation. Disgusted, she described them as acting like they “lost a family member instead of a promo tie-in.” In her opinion, those who reacted badly came across as caring more about their entertainment than respecting a real-world tragedy.
Other aspects also arose during her rant about K-pop fandom. Actually, she pointed out how fans often invent dramatic gossip without evidence. For instance, many folks initially claimed the Rookie of the Year award was rigged. But, after reviewing it, she felt that the actual winners made sense.
Obviously, she also called out the “fake disrespect cinematic universe” fans created around other groups. Plus, she defended idols for having normal human reactions. There’s a difference between shock and shade, after all.
Respect Health Issues
Additionally, K-Pop Spy slammed the treatment of BABYMONSTER’s Rami. The star is on a medical hiatus, but her temporary absence led to online speculation. So, the vlogger called it “proof hunting energy” and felt that fans shouldn’t feel so entitled that they deserve a “teenage girl’s” private health details. After all, a real health issue shouldn’t be a fun place for the creation of “fandom content.”
Overall, K-Pop Spy believed the event seemed to be a “live diagnostic test for how unserious this fandom is.” Not done, she summed it up as the Korean music fans giving a lot of focus on speculation and gossip, but they can’t respect serious real-world issues.
Misplaced Priorities?
The anger over the canceled Saja Boys performance, in her view, was a perfect example of misplaced priorities. So, she concluded that the entire situation proved that fans value their own fantasies over basic human empathy.

Reactions In The Comments
Plenty of people had something to say about the expressed opinions. One viewer agreed it was wrong, saying, “Oh I knew you would say something about it.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion area:
- Girl please review the MAMA performances…we need our Queen to give reviews.
- im tired of how impatient people are for RAMI, that global fanpage posting something like that is so unprofessional and it brought soo much hate to the girls.
- I love how you drag the fandom, deserved!
- Yaaay I was waiting for this.
