A seemingly minor incident involving THE BOYZ‘s Sunwoo has snowballed into a significant controversy, even drawing the attention and direct criticism of actress and former idol Nana. The issue stems from a viral video capturing Sunwoo dropping his AirPods, which has led to accusations of rude behavior towards a security guard.

The video, which quickly circulated online, appeared to show Sunwoo dropping his earbuds and then receiving them from a security guard who picked them up. Netizens were quick to criticize the idol for allegedly failing to thank the guard appropriately and for not picking up the item himself.

Facing the mounting backlash, Sunwoo addressed the situation online with a clarification for fans. He explained that he did indeed thank the security guard but admitted to not bowing his head, a customary sign of gratitude in South Korea. He attributed this oversight to being caught off guard by a fan shouting at that moment.

“A fan had shouted something, and I was quite confused in that situation, so I didn’t know what I had dropped,” Sunwoo explained. “When I realized it was my AirPods, I shouted, ‘my AirPods,’ and searched for it with my eyes. I couldn’t find it and I ended up receiving them from the guard who picked it up for me. I said thank you, but I did not bow my head. I know how things could’ve looked bad [on video], but don’t worry as I am someone who never forgets to say thank you, even if someone holds the door for me from behind.”

Despite Sunwoo’s apology and explanation, the video continued to spread, even gaining traction on Instagram. It was on this platform that actress Nana, known for her roles in various dramas and her past as a member of After School and Orange Caramel, left a pointed comment on the viral clip using her public personal account. Her directness was stark:

“Looks like he ought to be scolded.”

Her comment suggests that she, too, perceived Sunwoo’s actions in the video as disrespectful and warranting criticism.

The Instagram comment section on the video was also flooded with negative reactions from regular users, echoing the initial criticisms. While Sunwoo has attempted to clarify his actions and apologize for any perceived rudeness, it appears that the initial impression left by the viral video has resonated negatively with a significant portion of the public, including established figures within the entertainment industry like Nana.
