BLACKPINK star Jennie Kim had a difficult time during her sets on stage at Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Oskaka this weekend, and K-Pop fans couldn’t help but notice that she got upset about it.
Between technical glitches and outfit fails, things became just too much for the singer. According to Koreaboo, on August 14 she had an outfit problem that led to accidental exposure during her Tokyo performance.
The Osaka Problems
Then came Osaka. Her microphone stopped working properly during the set and she had a recurring wardrobe issue that forced her to step off stage to fix her clothes. She ended up skipping one of her songs to deal with the outfit.
Fan videos appeared to show her hands were trembling as she tried to fix her clothing and she seemed close to tears. The outlet wrote, “The back-to-back problems seemed to take a toll.”

She was also seen “biting her lip and running her hand through her hair.” Despite the stress, she pushed through the rest of the performance, but she seemed unable to hold back tears and she didn’t perform “Dracula.”
The multiple failures put a lot of pressure on Jennie Kim, and on X, a lot of BLACKPINK fans felt sorry for her. Live shows are probably the worst time for a performer to struggle through failures.
Previous Incident in Melbourne
Back in 2023, Jennie struggled with completing a performance in Melbourne. The BLACKPINK concert raised a lot of worry for netizens because it seemed a health issue had deteriorated.
People reported at the time that she exited the show but was “now recovering.” But there has not been any announcement that her problems this year came from health concerns.
Big Differences
The 2023 incident was health-related, while the problems during her August Summer Sonic performance this weekend appeared to only involve her microphone and outfit.
It’s easy to forget how much pressure these K-Pop stars face. Fans hated seeing her struggle while everything broke down around her.
Fans Weigh In
When @GENIUS9N shared a clip from the weekend on X, they cited Jennie Kim as saying, “I’m so sorry I’m having an issue with my outfit today, I think I didn’t expect it to be so hot and sweaty but I’m back! I’ll be here!”
Many people seemed very concerned for the BLACKPINK star, but some of them slammed the support crew.
One of them said, “Seriously, Sam is really getting on my nerves. When are they going to fire him? It’s not possible for Jennie to have wardrobe issues all the time. It’s clear that her team is the problem.”
In another post by @Mats92117186, who expressed sympathy, a follower wrote, “I see she’s crying because she didn’t give the best to Japan fans. All touched…” And another pointed out, “It’s okay queen, Osaka people can rewatch fancams of your Tokyo Dracula performance.”
