BabyMonster tour slammed by k-pop spy - youtube 1

YouTuber K-Pop Spy released a scathing critique of BabyMonster’s recent tour. She didn’t hold back. The seven-member YG Entertainment girl group debuted in late 2023. Their youngest member, Chiquita, is just 17. Their oldest, Ruka, is 23. Read on for more about why the influencer was so critical.

The Vlog On Sunday

According to her Sunday rant the tour’s solo stages crossed a line. She focused heavily on the younger members. Rora covered “Havana.” Pharita performed “Super Bass.” Chiquita did “Worth It.”

The vlogger argued these songs are inappropriate for minors. She said watching Chiquita perform brought her to tears. “Not tears of pride, tears of disgust.”

She described the choreography in graphic detail, including hand-on-body movements, and even self-choking gestures. She wrote that Chiquita was “doing moves that would make a grown R&B singer blush.”

The vlogger didn’t stop at the performance itself. She argued the company is creating a permanent problem. Once Chiquita turns eighteen, she said, people will look back and retroactively normalize it.

She coined this “image debt,” which seems to be forcing a minor to carry a version of herself designed by adults with questionable intentions.

She went on to argue that “the choreographer needs to be investigated” and that “the creative director needs to be put on a watch list,” comments that some viewers may regard as rhetorical hyperbole.

K-Pop Spy further argued that whoever approved the routine should have their “hard drive checked,” a remark that some viewers felt crossed the line

MEOVV – ‘Too Pretty’ Backlash

The vlogger then switched to other groups. She defended MEOVV against critics who say they are too polished and unrelatable.

She called that criticism ridiculous, asking rhetorically “since when is a millionaire Chanel-wearing performer supposed to be your average bestie from Florida?”

J.Y. Park’s Ego Problem

K-Pop Spy also attacked J.Y. Park, the founder of JYP Entertainment. According to her, he constantly inserts himself into his group’s content, at one point noting that “he literally pushes them aside to plant himself dead center.”

She claimed some people mistakenly think the group has five members instead of four because he is always present.

She also revisited an old controversy, reminding viewers of the time he performed an inappropriately suggestive song at a breast cancer charity event, calling it “the audacity” and “the tone deafness.”

The Bigger Picture

Her overarching argument is that the industry exploits minors, companies overlook profitable regions, CEOs are driven by ego, and fans are hypocritical. She delivered all of this with anger and sarcasm.

Some folks believe she went too far with her language. Others agree with her core poins. Whether you agree or not, she raised questions worth asking.
